IELTS Study Plan for Band 7- Writing (GT)

IELTS Writing is the most difficult section of the IELTS exam that assesses a candidate on four criteria:
  • Coherence and Cohesion
  • Lexical Resources
  • Task Achievement
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy
It is highly recommended that the candidates must practice different types of essays and letters while preparing for IELTS General Training- writing section. The following study plan is based on the recent questions asked in the IELTS Exam. To strengthen your preparation, use a stopwatch to complete the tasks on time. 

Day Writing
Day 1
  • Letter: Write a letter to your manager to open a cafeteria in the office.
  • Essay: In recent times, parents are giving more and more freedom to their children. Present your views whether it is a positive development or negative development.
Day 2
  • Letter: Write a letter to the manager of an international company responding to an advertisement for a job
  • Essay: Nowadays people are buying electric devices. Present your views whether it is a positive development or negative development.
Day 3
  • Letter: You ordered a book which has not arrived yet. Write a letter to the manager of the company asking for the order details and why do you need it urgently.
  • Essay: Nowadays, the number of people visiting museums and historical sites is declining. Discuss the problems and provide a solution.
Day 4
  • Letter: Write a letter to your friend who organised a housewarming party that you attended. Mention what did you like about his new house and how much you enjoyed the party.
  • Essay: Nowadays, the number of people visiting museums and historical sites is declining. Discuss the problems and provide a solution.
Day 5
  • Letter: Write a letter to a person who recently returned your bag that you lost somewhere. Explain why the bag was important to you and how thankful you are.
  • Essay: Some people believe that parents should limit hours of watching TV and videogames for children and encourage them to read books. Do you agree or disagree? Present your view with supporting argument.
Day 6
  • Letter: You work in an international company and your designation in the company has recently been changed for which you need training. Write a letter to the manager of the company what is the new designation and why do you need training for it and also suggest arrangements for incorporating training in the company.
  • Essay: Some people the residents of a town/city/area are responsible to keep the surroundings clean while others think that it is the duty of the government. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Day 7
  • Letter: A local magazine has invited people’s opinions. Write a letter to the editor of the magazine explaining why do you like this magazine and what you dislike. Also, suggest some improvements.
  • Essay: Some people think that teenagers should be encouraged to do unpaid/voluntary work to help the community. It is believed that this would help the teenager and society as a whole. Do you agree or disagree?
Day 8
  • Letter: Write a letter to a hotel manager asking about the party you want to arrange for someone. Mention the occasion and decoration ideas. Also, ask the pricing structure.
  • Essay: Some people believe that workers should be paid according to what they produce and sell. They believe it will encourage and motivate them. Do you think it is the best method?
Day 9
  • Letter: Write a letter to the manager of a store from where you purchased a clothing item and found some issues. Explain what did you purchase and what are the issues and what do you want the store manager to do.
  • Essay: People participating in dangerous sports like paragliding and bungee jumping must be responsible for their own life and the rescue workers should not risk their lives. Do you agree or disagree?
Day 10
  • Letter: Write a letter to your colleague informing him/her your planned visit to the town you used to work in. Tell him/her why are you visiting and where are you staying and what are you planning to do with them.
  • Essay: The population of obese people is increasing day by day. Some people believe that by increasing the prices of fattening food products the problem can be solved. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Day 11
  • Letter: You appeared in an interview recently, and think that the interview went well. But the organisation has not yet informed you about the result. Write a letter to the organisation giving details of the post you applied for and why do you feel the interview went well. Why do you want a quick response?
  • Essay: Some people believe that the students should start working after finishing school while others say that they should get a university education. Discuss both views and give your opinions.
Day 12
  • Letter: You recently moved to a new house and you want an old friend to come and stay with you. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter, invite him to stay and suggest a date; briefly describe the new house and garden and say why you like the new house
  • Essay: Some people believe that people should provide for themselves when they retire and the government should not be responsible for their well-being. Do you agree or disagree?
Day 13
  • Letter: You work a part-time job in a company and the company posted an advert seeking a person for a full-time position. Write a letter to your manager requesting to apply for the advertised position. In the letter, you should mention why do you want to apply What your future goals are Why it would be beneficial for the company.
  • Essay: Government should support and fund sports and arts in school to encourage children to participate in the sports and arts instead of supporting professional sports and artistic performance for the general public. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Day 14
  • Letter: You want to learn a language. There is a teacher nearby where you live. Write a letter to the teacher: How you came to know about him/her; Explain why you want to learn
  • Essay: Nowadays, people are more interested in expensive weddings and they are spending a lot of money on weddings as compared to the past. What are the reasons and effects of this culture?
Day 15
  • Letter: You have recently stayed in a hotel and after returning back you realise that you have left something valuable at your hotel room. Write a letter to the manager of the hotel.  In the letter, you should: Explain what have you left where did you leave it. What the manager should do if he/she finds out.
  • Essay: In some countries, excessive tourism is causing environmental problems. What are the reasons behind it and suggest some solutions?
